A High Court in Maiduguri, Borno State, has convicted and sentenced a 28-year-old man, Abubakar Ibrahim, to five years imprisonment for the offence of sexual exploitation.
The judgment was delivered by Honourable Justice Aisha Ndume on Monday, August 4, 2025, following a case brought against the convict by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Ibrahim was found guilty of procuring a person for sexual exploitation, a criminal offence punishable under Section 16 (1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
The case, which began with Ibrahim’s arraignment on November 21, 2024, concluded with a firm ruling that reflects the judiciary’s growing commitment to addressing human trafficking and exploitation in Nigeria.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the convict to pay a fine of ₦1 million, reinforcing the gravity of the crime.
This verdict is seen as a significant step in the fight against trafficking and exploitation, with NAPTIP reaffirming its commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice and protecting vulnerable individuals from abuse.
