Catholic Priest Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Teenager Dead During New Year’s Mass in Imo
A shocking incident has occurred in Imo State, where a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Enyinnaya, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a teenage boy dead during a New Year’s Mass.
The incident took place on January 1, 2025, at St. Columbus Catholic Church in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area. According to eyewitnesses, the priest fired shots in the air in an attempt to disperse a group of boys setting off knockouts within the church.
However, the gun allegedly malfunctioned, and a stray bullet hit one of the boys, resulting in his death.
The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and has launched an investigation into the matter.
The police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that the priest is currently in custody and that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
